Factors influencing Poverty of the class of Elderly Working poor

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to explore characteristics of the elderly working poor and to identify the factors influencing poverty in comparison on between the elderly working poor, older than 50 years and any other working poor class, which has not been studied before in Korea. The results of this study consisted of mainly three parts as followed: the first, human capital, household, resident site, and employment status are shown to be significant predictors for the poverty of the elderly. The second, the results show that factors influencing the poverty is different in the age class . The third, regardless of the age class, their employment status is shown to be common predictors for the working poor. Such results suggest that segmentation study according to the age, gender, and disability is helpful to make social policies on the elderly working poor which is urgently needed.
